The MESSENGER LYRICS
THE MESSENGER – LYRICS
Litefoot released The Messenger album in 2002 which he wrote in a matter of days. He then recorded the entire album in one day. The Messenger has become a fan favorite and the lyrics to three of the songs on the album, as well as the intro to the album, are below for you to read and enjoy.

If our hearts are in the right place and we do what we do in a humble way
Then the Creator will bless our actions
Remember righteousness in your heart and in your mind
The pain has to be turned into self-determination and the anger into enlightenment
The time is coming and the lines are being drawn for who will stand for positive change to root out the evil energy that plagues Indian Country
Our enemy does not have a physical form, only uses those in physical forms to do the work, feel me?
When I say to pray, I mean it
We had better all prepare ourselves for battle on a spiritual level
I have had the enemy at my door and I have looked him in the eye and shown him that I am not afraid
He is a cowardly foe but one who is manipulative and a user of persons to achieve his ends
He is also as equally determined to remain as I am determined to cut him out
He has control over the weak and uses them without their knowledge and he knows our weaknesses but he is helpless in front of the Creator and to all of those who stand with the Creator
He is a huge screaming confused ball of energy who easily consumes the timid
But behind that, he is a puny weak coward who is without power
The only power he has, is given to him by those he manipulates and intimidates into his fold
Many do not know what he looks like but I see him everyday
But I have seen him on the Rez, I have seen him in the people’s eyes, I’ve seen him in leaders, I’ve seen him on the internet, I have heard him on CD, I have watched him on TV, I have listened to him on the radio, I have read about his work in newspapers, and I have felt him near me
He knows me and he knows who I am and he know that I am coming for him
The Messenger
1st verse:
I’ve come to give my life so my people can rise
You can step on me if it means we all rise
The People first that’s a warrior’s point of view
But real warriors are few and they don’t teach that at school
So listen to ya elders and absorb their heart
Because one day they’ll end then with you we start
You understand that? The most important fact
To get a good look at us then you gotta look back
Embrace the concepts and ideas of a village
Instead of kill each other rape, rob and pillage
You just bein Tonto gettin down like that
Stereotypes of us & they still wearin the white hat
The whole situations ill from here to Capitol Hill
We can’t get our thing together but they still passin bills
And all you know is there ain’t nothin to eat
So ya sit back down and kill the hunger with sleep
Chorus (2x):
I’ve come to bring life & heal your pain
I’ve come to shed Lite make sunshine from the rain
I’ve come to bring truth, yeah I’m gettin at you
I’ve come bearing news, the choice is on you
I’m back with a vengeance this land is mine
Apology for the wait to hear these conscious rhymes
Brothers and sisters we gotta take that stand
Move outta comfort zones and develop a plan
Foot Soldier for life inclined to end red strife
Make war not peace till the enemy ceases
Cuz I can still the bugles and guns go off
Everytime I see them youngins get into that pot
Thinkin weed in they system takes em to a higher plane
Neglectin ceremonies which could heal those pains
Frustration I have a spiritual man called
He said what I see ain’t as simple to all
Be patient young man pray never lose hope
Burn that cedar smoke and keep ya heart in the zone
And I finally come to terms to all the things I learned
Which makes me dangerous far’s the governments concerned
Chorus (2x):
I’ve come to bring life & heal your pain
I’ve come to shed Lite make sunshine from the rain
I’ve come to bring truth, yeah I’m gettin at you
I’ve come bearing news, the choice is on you
I gotta live my life like a soldier for the cause
I gotta make a stand even through bad odds
It only takes one to make it through enemy lines
To turn the tide of battle make the enemy mines
So I vow to stay down diligent and true
Travel through this land, bring the word to you
Visions still playin on repeat of a dreams of me in that field
Smelling the grass so sweet I see my body rise and now I’m floatin in air
It’s beautiful up here but why is my body back there
My eyes cut to motion comin over the rise
Again, it’s me with children on each side, a little boy and girl innocent
I walk on by and down the hill we went
My body turned itself and now I see on the rise
See nothin but my people reachin back to the sky
Chorus (2x):
I’ve come to bring life & heal your pain
I’ve come to shed Lite make sunshine from the rain
I’ve come to bring truth, yeah I’m gettin at you
I’ve come bearing news, the choice is on you
Verse 1
Tomahawk! Still leaving scalps on the ground
Still rolling though towns with my rag top down
Who want to come test, Native America’s Best
Who want to get rolled by fools with tactical vests
A good day to die just got better for me
It’s a whole new year but damn, outlook is bleak
Every negative poll, got us first place listed
Trying to be optimistic- but how you battle statistics?
Undo government abuse, tribal genocide.
Thousands of treaties with nothing but lies
Call me militant. Man your missing the point.
Everything I spit’s historically’s on point.
If it don’t sound good, I know ya wanna stay asleep
But in your dreams, you seein the cavalry creep.
Wake up call! Rally up all of the troops
Tell em fight till the end & do what they gotta do
Chorus:
My people, listen to the truth in the verse
C’mon people, even if the words I speak hurt
Knowledge, the key to unlock your cell
Enlightenment, the very opposite of hell
My people, get up off your knees
Native people, we’re our own worst enemies
Wisdom, all you need to overcome
The light, stops the dark from coming on.
Politikin the message. Yo, the letters is real
The Creator told me, “Tell all ya people the deal.
Fire off a few rounds with your lyrical arrows
Say what you gotta say- even if it scares those
Weak hearts, that’s playing the fence.
Let the spirits handle that Make ya blows make dents
Speak your words clear, then you blast em with truth,
Rap it to a beat and tie in your cultural roots
That’s your medicine LITEFOOT, Go do my work!
Even if it hurts, You still do my work.
I make you the promise, I’mma get your back
You answer to me, go on & never look back
Your rewards come later, don’t sweat any haters
I got something for them, between me & them
LITEFOOT, that means your FEET have LIGHT
On the darkest of nights, you see my path alright.”
Chorus
My people, listen to the truth in the verse
C’mon people, even if the words I speak hurt
Knowledge, the key to unlock your cell
Enlightenment, the very opposite of hell
My people, get up off your knees
Native people, we’re our own worst enemies
Wisdom, all you need to overcome
The light, stops the dark from coming on.
A decade strong, a CD stripe each year
Steady bring the word to many thousands of ears
Stand tall my people, you can do your thing
Don’t you listen to fools, disrespect your dreams
You see me player, I’mma handle my game
There ain’t thing you can do, you better bet on the name
I’m thinking of those, who rode against black boots
So I’m rapping for those, who gave their life for the truth
The battle is only over when you give up the fight
So the war is still on, until the end of my life
I’mma be that example of a warrior for you
I’mma be about everything’s right & true
I want you to know we ain’t promised a deal
You don’t get caught up thinking, you got time to kill
Every moment that pass, stays gone forever
Every second God gives, better treat it like treasure.
Chorus to fade
My people, listen to the truth in the verse
C’mon people, even if the words I speak hurt
Knowledge, the key to unlock your cell
Enlightenment, the very opposite of hell
My people, get up off your knees
Native people, we’re our own worst enemies
Wisdom, all you need to overcome
The light, stops the dark from coming on.
1st verse:
Hello, I’m an Indian it’s really nice to meet ya’ll
Hau! Oooga Oooga Now should I do a war call?
I know what you’re wondering where’s my headdress
Well, I forgot it in my teepee with the scalps and fry bread
It’s right next to my knife and my bloody tomahawk
And picture of my dad’s hockey team the Chicago Blackhawks
I was really in a hurry cuz my horse it ain’t that fast
I don’t have a car I’m just ya basic blanket ass
Plus with no cash it’s kinda hard to buy that gas
You know we’re all poor & sleep naked on the grass
I didn’t finish school man, it was way too hard
Plus I can get through life with just my Indian card
It lets me know how much of an Indian that I am
And who decides that quit playin man that’s Uncle Sam
Sam and his crew take really good care of my fam
They only killed half my tribe and stole our land
Chorus:
Stereotipik –whatcha know bout me
Stereotipik- absent from history
Stereotipik-don’t pretend to know
Yo America-ya lettin ya ignorance show
Stereotipik-Hollywood stereotyped me
Stereotipik-Mascots don’t honor me
Stereotipik-ya’ll reap what ya sew
Yo America-raise up we lettin ya know
Oh hey there I’m back now where’d I leave off
Somethin about my tribe..hmm, dang I forgot
Mustn’t been that important if I forgot so easily
Oh look, the Washington Redskins are playin on TV
They’re my favorite of all of these Indian teams
Cuz of that crazy black guy who dresses up to honor me
The Seminoles look cool but the Chiefs fight anywhere
And the Chicagos got the Illini hmm, what’s an Illini?
Makes me so proud to see these teams named after me
To see my peoples struggle honored with rivalries
A mascot I can wear and you can grow up to be
A brave with braids a new native identity
Chief Yahoo Underwear a culture we can all share
So paint ya face up till the other teams fans get scared
It’s a beautiful thing recreational genocide
America’s multi-cultural Native American pride
Chorus:
Stereotipik –whatcha know bout me
Stereotipik- absent from history
Stereotipik-don’t pretend to know
Yo America-ya lettin ya ignorance show
Stereotipik-Hollywood stereotyped me
Stereotipik-Mascots don’t honor me
Stereotipik-ya’ll reap what ya sew
Yo America-raise up we lettin ya know
Oh hau! Oooga Oooga now huntin story begin
Tracked a bear all day found him up in his den
I fought him with my hands and I punched and I kicked
Then killed him with a blow from my mighty war stick
I skinned him on the spot and I drank his blood
Like in Dances with Wolves man that stuff is good
Then I wandered in the woods for a couple of days
Prayin to the trees chantin like I was in a daze
I laid down and had a vision right there in my sleep
Dreamt I was a Cherokee and everybody wanted to be like me
Jumped up grabbed an arrow shot a bird out the sky
You know me good hunter got him right in the eye
Saw a deer took off ran him down with my knife
Talked to him for awhile then he vanished from sight
And through the whole hunt a white guy played the flute
That was strange to me cuz he was pretty goot
Chorus:
Stereotipik –whatcha know bout me
Stereotipik- absent from history
Stereotipik-don’t pretend to know
Yo America-ya lettin ya ignorance show
Stereotipik-Hollywood stereotyped me
Stereotipik-Mascots don’t honor me
Stereotipik-ya’ll reap what ya sew
Yo America-raise up we lettin ya know
